Support Net Zero Emissions Through Green Energy Operations

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Power Indonesia (Pertamina NRE), which is part of PT Pertamina (Persero), shows its commitment to ESG (environmental, social, and governance) implementation by holding Knowledge Sharing Campaign (KSC) 2023 on March 27–April 11, 2023, with the theme Unlocking the Opportunities to Go Beyond.

The Knowledge Sharing Campaign is a knowledge sharing activity with speakers from all levels of management who serve as role models in improving the company's knowledge sharing culture by providing information and adding insight to all Pertamina group’s employees. The KSC event has been routinely held every year since 2019.

The Knowledge Sharing Campaign strives to encourage every PGE officer to be aware of, understand, support, and participate in knowledge sharing initiatives. Aside from that, KSC 2023 also aims for campaigning the success stories, lesson learning, troubleshooting, and problem solving at PGE for all Pertamina Officers.

This KSC 2023 activity supports Net Zero Emission with green energy operations that have been implemented at PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO). One of the subjects raised in this event was that geothermal energy is strategically positioned to help Indonesia achieve the Net Zero target because geothermal power plants are recorded to have a 10x lower carbon footprint than non-renewable power plants. Besides, geothermal power plants also have very low emissions.

Geothermal energy is also a multipurpose energy source. Geothermal energy can be used for direct heating and cooling as well as producing various products such as brine to power, green hydrogen, green ammonia, green methanol, and extraction silica.

The Company has implemented ESG (environmental, social, and governance) across all of its work lines. This is demonstrated by the acquisition of an ESG Risk Rating of 5.2 from Sustainalytics (PGE is the first-ranked company out of 679 companies in the global utilities sector and also ranked 10 out of 14,680 companies in all sectors) and a rating value of 2 from Sustainable Fitch (indicating that the company has good ESG performance).

PGE's environmental achievements can also be shown in its participation in the Gold PROPER Event in 2022. PGE received Gold PROPER 12 times in a row for PGE Kamojang area, and for the first time for PGE Ulubelu area.

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO), as one of the geothermal exploration and production companies, manages 13 geothermal working areas (WKP), or 82% of the total installed geothermal capacity in Indonesia, and operates in six areas. 672 MW are operated by PGEO, and 1,205 MW are managed through a Joint Operation Contract (JOC).

PGEO's production capacity will increase by 600 MW in 2027, bringing the total capacity to 1,272 MW. As a subsidiary of the Pertamina Group, PGEO has a proven track record of maintaining effective and consistent geothermal power plant operations.

PGEO's expertise in reservoir management and sustainable steam supply, as well as partnerships with reputable and renowned business partners, ensure high operating standards. Moreover, PGEO excels in operation and maintenance through the implementation of management systems and digital technology.

At the KSC 2023 closing ceremony, PGEO President Director Ahmad Yuniarto expressed his appreciation for the KSC 2023 team. By organizing this event every year, the participants can expand their expertise and gain different types of knowledge from experts in their respective fields.

"I hope this event will continue and improve every year. The materials presented should be enhanced to make them easier to understand not only by certain groups but also the general public,” said Ahmad.

Octopus.ina CMO and Co-Founder Hamish Daud, on the same occasion, expressed his appreciation for PGE's concern for the environment to support a green community.

"Appreciation for PGE for caring for the environment around the operating area. The CSR green living ecosystem program that has been implemented by PGE can increase economic activity of local community," said Hamish.
