Attending the 2025 HIPMI-Danantara Business Forum, PGE Emphasizes the Importance of Accelerating the Energy Transition Towards a Golden Indonesia by 2045

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) is pledging its support for the new direction of Indonesia's economic transformation. This step is part of the Company's commitment to supporting the government's vision of achieving a Golden Indonesia 2045, particularly in the energy transition agenda.

This support and commitment was reflected in PGE's participation in the HIPMI-Danantara Business Forum 2025, held in Jakarta on Monday (October 20, 2025). With the theme "Berdikari with Danantara: Economic Transformation Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045," PGE views this forum as a strategic step in bringing together leaders from across sectors to discuss the new direction of Indonesia's economic transformation.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Danantara Indonesia CEO Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia, Chairman of the HIPMI Central Executive Board Akbar Himawan Buchari, and other prominent figures.

Speaking at the forum, Rosan Roeslani predicted that Indonesia would become one of the world's largest countries by 2045. He stated that this prediction aligns with estimates by the World Bank and various other institutions. "Rest assured, we can achieve this if we collaborate, synergize, and work together effectively," he said.

In line with this, Bahlil Lahadalia touched on the importance of strengthening national energy sovereignty. To achieve this, he emphasized the need to reduce dependence on imports. "I emphasize the importance of equitable downstreaming. Fairness for the central government, regional governments, communities, large businesses, investors, and even MSMEs," he said.

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk President Director Julfi Hadi stated that efforts to realize this national goal must be accompanied by strengthening energy security as a primary foundation. He stated that the world is no longer simply facing climate change but has entered a climate catastrophe. This situation demands that all countries, including Indonesia, accelerate their steps towards an energy transition.

"This is where geothermal energy plays a crucial role as a local energy source. As a reliable energy source, geothermal energy can generate electricity consistently around the clock, and its potential is spread across various regions of Indonesia. This advantage and abundance make geothermal energy a strategic asset for the nation," he explained.

Julfi also explained that not all green energy sources have the baseload capabilities of geothermal energy. Therefore, he said, geothermal energy occupies a strategic position as the most commercially viable renewable energy source today because it is not dependent on weather and climate change. "Geothermal energy has great potential to be a key driver of the energy transition and support the realization of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision," he said.

Beyond Electricity: PGE Builds an Integrated Geothermal Ecosystem

On this occasion, Julfi explained that geothermal energy is not just a business issue, but has become a crucial part of the national energy ecosystem. Currently, geothermal energy utilization in Indonesia is only around 12 percent. This means that there is still around 80 percent of the potential that can be optimized. According to Julfi, this significant opportunity can only be realized through the development of the integrated geothermal ecosystem that Indonesia needs.

"PGE has more than 40 years of experience in developing geothermal energy in Indonesia. We have also identified a potential of 3 gigawatts from our various Geothermal Working Areas (WKP). By developing an integrated geothermal ecosystem from upstream to downstream, we are ready to trigger a golden era for national geothermal energy," said Julfi.

Furthermore, Julfi stated that PGE is currently exploring off-grid geothermal business opportunities through a "beyond electricity" strategy. He believes geothermal energy should be utilized in other industrial sectors. "This spirit drives us to develop off-grid geothermal solutions. In line with this commitment, PGE is preparing a comprehensive green hydrogen ecosystem. Pertamina is the only one in Indonesia with a complete process chain, from geothermal energy, electrolysis, midstream infrastructure, and offtakers," he explained.

As a pioneer in geothermal energy development in Indonesia, PGE currently manages an installed capacity of 727 megawatts (MW) across six operating areas. PGE is also developing several strategic projects, such as the Hululais Unit 1 & 2 Geothermal Power Plant (110 MW), as well as several co-generation projects with a total capacity of 230 MW.
