Exceeding Target, Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) 2020 Performance Record Positive Growth in the midst of a Pandemic

Jakarta, 7 May 2021 - The realization of the operational performance of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) throughout 2020 has exceeded the target. During the pandemic, PGE managed to record electricity equivalent production (Electric Volume Produce – Geothermal) of 4,618.27 GWh or 14% higher than the target set for 2020, which was 4,044.88 GWh. The achievement above the target was due to the implementation of operation excellence which was supported by the implementation of the Geothermal Integrated Management System. PGE's achievement contributed 31% of the 2020 national geothermal production set by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources at 14,774 Giga Watt Hour (GWh).

In detail, the Kamojang Geothermal Area (AG) managed to record electricity equivalent production of 1,650 GWh or 13% higher than the 2020 RKAP target of 1,454 Gwh. AG Lahendong recorded electricity equivalent production of 828 GWh or 10% higher than the target of 754 GWh.

Then, AG Ulubelu recorded electricity equivalent production of 1,613 GWh or 21% higher than the target of 1,335 GWh. Then, AG Lumut Balai recorded electricity equivalent production of 442 GWh or 12% higher than the target of 395 GWh.

In addition to maintaining the electricity supply from plants that are currently operating, PGE also conducts studies in order to increase the installed geothermal capacity for generating electrical energy from existing operating areas. The initial focus areas in this study are the Ulubelu Area (Lampung) and the Lahendong Area (North Sulawesi).

“PGE continues to be committed to increasing New and Renewable Energy (EBT) in the national energy mix to 23% by 2025 in the geothermal sector with a measurable business strategy to become a World Class Green Energy Company. In the future, PGE targets to operate a geothermal power plant with an own operation capacity of 1.3 Giga Watt (GW) in 2030.” said PGE President Director Ahmad Yuniarto.

Currently, PGE manages 15 Geothermal Working Areas, in which 1877 MW of geothermal electricity has been generated, consisting of 672 MW which is owned by PGE and 1205 MW managed through Joint Operation Contracts.

The geothermal installed capacity in the PGE Working Area contributes about 88% of the total installed geothermal capacity in Indonesia, with the potential to reduce CO2 emissions of around 9.5 million tons of CO2 per year.

President Director of PGE Ahmad Yuniarto said that saving was also one of the keys in facing the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic throughout 2020, from the planned operational cost budget, PGE was able to perform operating cost efficiency of 9%. PGE also supports the Government's strategy to utilize domestic products. For the implementation of the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), PGE has implemented TKDN Utilization of 63.39%, exceeding the planned 2020 target of 25%.

PGE Achievements and Commitments in Occupational Safety Keselamatan

In carrying out its operations, PGE has managed to achieve 11,147,715 safe working hours since January 2019. This is a very crucial aspect in the energy business. In addition, PGE Lahendong Area received a Zero Accident Award from the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia.
