Lumut Balai Unit-2 Project Ready to Add 55 MW Capacity Towards 1 GW Target PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE)
(IDX: PGEO) continues to show real efforts in achieving the target of 1 GW installed capacity in the next two years. PGE President Director Julfi Hadi emphasized that the additional capacity of 55 MW from Lumut Balai Unit 2 makes this project a strategic part in efforts to achieve the company's installed capacity target.

"The Lumut Balai Unit 2 project is proof of our commitment to increasing the installed capacity of geothermal energy in Indonesia. With the addition of 55 MW, we are getting closer to the target of 1 GW, which will contribute significantly to national energy security. PGE will continue to innovate and ensure that this development runs according to plan while still prioritizing aspects of sustainability and efficiency," he explained during a visit to the Lumut Balai Unit 2 project, in Muara Enim, South Sumatra, on Friday (7/2/2025).

This management walkthrough activity was attended by all management including PGE President Director Julfi Hadi; VP Project Management Fandi Indra Bangsawan; VP HSSE Uus Kurniawan; and Corporate Secretary Kitty Andhora. The visit covered various areas including geothermal power plant (PLTP) facilities, production and reinjection wells, and other supporting infrastructure.

Management also held discussions with the project team and the entire contractor consortium regarding the technical challenges faced and the solutions implemented to ensure smooth project operations. In addition, an evaluation session was also held on the progress of the project, construction acceleration strategies, and future risk mitigation plans. The progress of the Lumut Balai Unit 2 Project has now reached 93.49%, with several aspects still needing to be completed such as technical documents and equipment procurement.

In developing the Lumut Balai Unit 2 project, PGE applies advanced technology that ensures high operational efficiency with minimal environmental impact and is safe for the surrounding area. As part of its commitment to sustainability, this project also contributes to reducing carbon emissions, in line with the national decarbonization strategy. In addition, PGE applies the highest standards in health, safety, security, and environmental aspects.

PGE Lumut Balai Unit 2 Project Manager Achmad Sri Fadli stated, “PGE at the Lumut Balai Unit 2 project site is committed to always implementing Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) with the highest standards. Safety is a shared responsibility, and every individual, both Officers and contractors, must ensure that all aspects of HSSE are carried out in accordance with applicable guidelines. With this commitment, PGE not only ensures the smooth running of the project, but also creates a safer, more efficient, and more sustainable work environment.”

These strategic steps not only accelerate the achievement of PGE's 1 GW target, but also strengthen Indonesia's position as one of the countries with the largest geothermal capacity in the world. With Indonesia's abundant geothermal potential, geothermal energy plays a role as a reliable domestic energy resource that is in line with the government's energy self-sufficiency target. PGE is committed to continuing to provide the best contribution to the energy transition by making geothermal energy the backbone of national energy security.
