One Year into the Prabowo-Gibran Partnership, PGE Becomes the Backbone of the Energy Transition Towards National Energy Sovereignty

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) affirmed its role as the backbone of the national energy transition. To mark the successful first year of the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, PGE is strengthening the foundation of Indonesia's energy sovereignty through sustainable geothermal management and utilization.

PGE President Director, Julfi Hadi, stated that the government's policy direction to achieve national energy independence is a strong impetus for PGE to continue expanding and deepening the management of geothermal potential throughout Indonesia.

"PGE is the backbone of Indonesia's energy transition. With geothermal potential reaching 24 gigawatts, or approximately 40 percent of the world's reserves, we have a significant mandate to transform this potential into a real national power. Through responsible management, we want to ensure that clean energy becomes the foundation of Indonesia's sovereignty and green future," said Julfi.

Over the past year, PGE has recorded several important achievements. One example is the operation of the Lumut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant (55 MW) in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra, which symbolizes the advancement of efficient and environmentally friendly technology in the national geothermal sector.

Furthermore, PGE also began construction of the 55 MW Gunung Tiga Geothermal Power Plant in Ulubelu, Lampung, in August 2025. This project will strengthen Sumatra's electricity system and mark an important milestone in achieving PGE's target of 1 gigawatt (GW) of independent installed capacity within the next 2–3 years, and 1.8 GW by 2033.

PGE also continues to strengthen innovation towards a green economy through the development of Green Hydrogen in the Ulubelu Green Hydrogen Pilot Project. This project builds a green hydrogen value chain from production, distribution, and utilization, as a first step towards a low-carbon industry and achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.

On the social and environmental front, PGE demonstrates a strong commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles by being included in the Top 50 ESG Global list by Sustainalytics, achieving an ESG risk score of 7.1 and a negligible risk level. To date, PGE has received 18 Gold PROPER awards from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, including 14 consecutive awards for PGE Kamojang Area, a record high in the Indonesian geothermal sector.

As a world-class green energy company, PGE also encourages community empowerment through the direct use of geothermal energy. This program includes utilizing geothermal energy for agricultural activities such as coffee drying with the innovative Geothermal Dry House, geothermal melon cultivation, and Geo-fert fertilizer dried by residual geothermal steam. These initiatives not only foster the local economy but also strengthen the community's role in the sustainable energy transition ecosystem.

To date, PGE manages a total geothermal capacity of 1,932 megawatts (MW), consisting of 727 MW operated directly by PGE and 1,205 MW through a Joint Operation Contract (JOC) scheme with strategic partners. The clean energy produced by PGE is capable of supplying electricity to more than two million households and has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by around 10 million tons of CO2 per year, strengthening Indonesia's path towards sustainable energy sovereignty.
