Pertamina Geothermal Energy Realistically Generates 1,300 MW Until 2030

Jakarta - As a subsidiary of Pertamina, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy participates in supporting the government's commitment to implementing renewable energy. PGE President Director Ali Mundakir explained this when he was a panelist at The 7th IndoEBTKE ConEx 2018 at Balai Kartini, Jakarta (08/30/2018).

Presenting the material with the headline "Beyond 1,000 Mwatt Opportunity and Challenges", Ali revealed the opportunity of the advantages of geothermal energy in Indonesia. Indonesia has 40% of the world's total geothermal potential. Geothermal energy is one of the cleanest sources of energy.

"One of the advantages of geothermal energy is environmental friendliness. This energy does not cause pollution, both air pollution, noise pollution, and does not produce carbon emissions and does not produce gases, liquids, or other toxic materials. Why? Because the waste produced is only in the form of water vapor. In line with its excellence, we are realistic that by 2030 it will produce 1,300 MW ", he added.

However, Ali realized the challenge in managing this energy was not small. "The exploration costs and capital of geothermal power plants are higher than other power plants that use fossil fuels," he added.

Sarah,  2016 class of Pertamina University Economics student who participated as a participant in the discussion claimed to get a lot of new knowledge about renewable energy. "Forums like this are very good for students. I understand that Indonesia has the potential in this geothermal energy. Hopefully in the future I can contribute to the renewable energy movement in Indonesia, "Sarah explained.
