PGE and MPI Conduct Joint Study for Geothermal Development

JAKARTA - As an opening for 2021, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) conducted a joint study with PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI) in terms of geothermal development in the PGE and MPI Work Areas spread across Indonesia.

The collaboration kick of meeting was held on Friday (8/1) which was attended directly by the CEO of Subholding Power & New Renewable Energy (PNRE) Pertamina, Heru Setiawan along with PTH President Director of PGE, Tafif Azimudin and MPI President Director, Eka Satria and his staff PGE and MPI management.

At the Kick of Meeting, the CEO of Subholding PNRE, Heru Setiawan also said that solid collaboration is needed in geothermal development to support the Government of Indonesia in achieving the national renewable energy-based electricity target.

"This Kick Off Meeting is a follow-up to the mutual agreement signed by both parties with the aim of optimizing geothermal development in 7 regions or development of 700 MW," Heru said in his speech.

The geothermal development study will be carried out in the PGE and MPI Working areas over the next six months. The study is expected to accelerate geothermal development in the PGE and MPI working areas.

Heru added, the study will cover technical, legal, environmental and social, commercial (including funding) and risk aspects, which are expected to produce a business scheme that is competitive and has a positive impact on both parties by prioritizing compliance with compliance (Good Corporate Governance - GCG).

As one of the geothermal developers in Indonesia whose working area has contributed around 88% of the total installed geothermal capacity in Indonesia, PGE continues to commit to increasing New and Renewable Energy (EBT) in the national energy mix to 23% by 2025, especially from geothermal energy.

"This collaboration is a form of our commitment to geothermal development in Indonesia," added Heru.
