PGE Ulubelu Area Strengthens Food Security and Women's Empowerment Through Horticulture Programs

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) (IDX:PGEO) Ulubelu Area continues to promote the welfare of local communities, particularly by strengthening food security. Through the Margo Rukun Bestari Social Forestry Business Group (KUPS), they initiated a horticultural planting program with the Pekon Ngarip Family Welfare Movement (PKK) women in the PGE Ulubelu Area work area, Lampung. This program focuses on the cultivation of chilies and onions, which are not only beneficial for household needs but also have the potential to provide additional economic value for residents.

This activity was led directly by the Head of the Margo Rukun Bestari KUPS, Wastoyo, who actively assisted and coached the participants throughout the planting process, from seed selection and cultivation techniques to harvest utilization.

"We are very pleased to be able to share our knowledge and enthusiasm with the women in the Ulubelu area. We hope that this activity will not only meet household needs but also open up small business opportunities that support the household economy," said Wastoyo.

This program received a positive response from the community and partners, including Hadi Suranto, General Manager of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) Ulubelu Area, who also attended the event.

"We are proud of the innovation and enthusiasm of the Ulubelu community in building food security through simple yet impactful methods. This is a form of community independence that we must continue to support," said Hadi.

The planting of chilies and onions is the first step in a series of community empowerment activities that will continue to be developed in the Ulubelu social forestry area. Going forward, this program will be expanded with advanced training on agricultural product processing, organic fertilizer management, and marketing strategies through local cooperatives.

The Margo Rukun Bestari Community Empowerment Program (KUPS) is one of PGE's flagship CSR programs in the Ulubelu Area. It has successfully transformed forest conservation efforts into a productive social forestry-based movement, through nurseries, composting, and honey cultivation, strengthening the local economy while preserving nature.

In addition to the Margo Rukun Bestari KUPS, several other PGE Ulubelu Area CSR programs include:
•? ?Kopi Beloe, an initiative to transform the Ulubelu coffee sector from upstream to downstream, encompassing nurseries, production, and marketing. Supported by a solar power plant (PLTS), Kopi Beloe successfully connects local agricultural products with the national market, boosting the productivity and competitiveness of Ulubelu coffee farmers.
•? ?Kemassari, a community empowerment program focused on assisting women and the elderly in health through preventive and participatory efforts to create independent, healthy, prosperous, and sustainable families.

•? ?Kemassari, a community empowerment program focused on supporting ... •? ?Ulubelu Triumphant is a flagship initiative of the PGE Ulubelu Area that combines geothermal energy utilization through direct-use geothermal technology with modern agricultural innovations in melon cultivation. Also supported by solar power plants, this program presents a sustainable green economy model and increases the independence of the surrounding community.

Moving forward, PGE Ulubelu Area will continue to strengthen its role as a catalyst for social and environmental change by delivering programs that are not only progressive and inclusive, but also oriented towards long-term impact. We believe that the success of a CSR program is not solely measured by numbers, but by how the program inspires, empowers, and creates shared value for the surrounding community.

Through an integrated approach, we are committed to supporting the national clean energy transition agenda while prioritizing sustainability principles. Every initiative we undertake is designed to lay the foundation for a greener, fairer, and more balanced future—a legacy we leave for future generations.
