PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO)'s Ulubelu Area was selected as a national case study for the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus project because it successfully delivered green electricity through an environmentally friendly system, empowering farmers, boosting the local economy, and preserving the environment. The PGE Ulubelu Area was chosen as the location for a Joint Site Visit with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Indonesia, and the SDGs Center of Padjadjaran University on August 25–26, 2025.
Acting General Manager of the PGE Ulubelu Area, Rawan Mirza, expressed his appreciation for this opportunity.

Our CSR programs in Ulubelu are a concrete manifestation of our Beyond Energy spirit, which is to provide the benefits of geothermal energy not only as electricity but also to support food security, environmental management, and improve community welfare. As a major contributor to the national green electricity supply, we are committed to maintaining a balance between energy security and sustainability," he said.
Over two days, the delegation received presentations on the profile of PGE Area Ulubelu, the operations of Geothermal Power Plant Units 1&2 and 3&4, HSSE performance achievements, the organization's strategic direction, and visited Indonesia's first green hydrogen pilot plant, developed at PGE Area Ulubelu.
The delegation also visited several of PGE Ulubelu's flagship CSR programs. At KUPS Margo Rukun Bestari (Pekon Ngarip), participants observed innovative organic fertilizers made from coffee husks and livestock manure, as well as the use of geothermal power plant filler waste for horticulture. At Kopi Beloe (Pekon Sukamaju), the delegation engaged with farmers about robusta coffee processing and the prospects of the local coffee business as an economic driver. The visit concluded at Ulubelu Triumphant (Pekon Muara Dua), which cultivates melons in a greenhouse utilizing residual geothermal energy (direct use) and solar power.
This activity is part of a collaborative research effort to strengthen institutional capacity, communities, and local innovation within the WEF Nexus framework and support the Just Energy Transition (JET) agenda. This cross-sector synergy is expected to become a model for inclusive, equitable, and replicable geothermal management across Indonesia. PGE's Ulubelu Area is not just a power plant, but also an energy policy laboratory that integrates food, water, and community empowerment.
