The Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Raja Juli Antoni, made a working visit to PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX:PGEO) Kamojang Area on Saturday (10/05/2025). This visit directly reviewed the geothermal energy potential and the implementation of sustainability principles carried out in the Kamojang Nature Tourism Park (TWA) area, which is part of the management of the PGE Kamojang Area.
During this visit, the Minister of Forestry and his entourage reviewed the Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) Unit 4 and Unit 5 facilities to see firsthand the geothermal power plant facilities and infrastructure, as well as the process of utilizing geothermal energy into clean and reliable electrical energy.
As part of PGE's long-term partnership with the Ministry of Forestry, the visit continued to the Kamojang Eagle Conservation Center (PKEK), a collaborative program that has been running since 2014 and focuses on preserving endemic Indonesian eagles in the Kamojang forest area.
"We released two Javan eagles, named Emilia and Biantara, which are the result of conservation and rehabilitation. The release of these eagles marks our commitment to wildlife conservation and forest ecosystems. Collaboration between the government, BUMN and the community is very important in maintaining environmental sustainability amidst national energy development," said the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni.
In line with that, the President Director of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, Julfi Hadi, expressed his appreciation for this visit as a momentum to strengthen cross-sector collaboration.
"Geothermal is the clean energy of the future, and its existence is closely related to forest areas. Collaboration between the energy and forestry sectors is very crucial to ensure the utilization of natural resources in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner," said Julfi.
During this activity, the group also visited the Geothermal Information Center (GIC) to get an explanation of the potential and utilization of geothermal energy in Indonesia, as well as the history and strategic role of Kamojang as one of the largest and best geothermal development pioneers in Indonesia. Minister Raja Juli Antoni also tasted Canaya Geothermal Coffee, a product of PGE Area Kamojang's social and environmental responsibility (TJSL) program, where coffee beans are dried using a geothermal dryhouse, an environmentally friendly geothermal drying house.
General Manager of PGE Area Kamojang, I Made Budi Kesuma Adi Putra, added that this visit was a form of recognition of PGE Area Kamojang's commitment to maintaining a balance between energy operations and environmental conservation.
"We continue to strive to run operations that are not only reliable and efficient, but also harmonious with the surrounding ecosystem. Programs such as Canaya Geothermal Coffee and the Kamojang Eagle Conservation Center are concrete examples of the synergy between geothermal and environmental conservation," said Made.
This activity was also attended by high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Forestry, including the Secretary General, Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE), Director General of Forestry Planning, Director General of Watershed Control and Forest Rehabilitation (PDASRH), Acting Director General of Social Forestry, Head of BBKSDA West Java, Sub Holding Pertamina New & Renewable Energy, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, and other related partners.
This visit strengthens the synergy between the energy and forestry sectors in encouraging the transition to clean energy while maintaining the sustainability of forest ecosystems as part of sustainable development.
