PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) successfully completed a critical phase in the operationalization of the 55 megawatt (MW) Lumut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP). After undergoing 72 consecutive hours of Unit Rated Capacity (URC) testing and being declared operationally fit through the issuance of a Letter of Operational Eligibility (SLO) on June 29, 2025, the plant is now fully operational and supplying electricity to the national grid. With this addition, PGE now manages an installed capacity of 727 MW across six operational areas.
The URC testing process, which took place from June 26-29, 2025, demonstrated stable generation performance and met specifications. With the signing of the URC Minutes and issuance of the SLO, it is hoped that the project's integration and synchronization with the national electricity grid will proceed smoothly and contribute positively to the national energy mix from new and renewable energy sources, particularly geothermal energy. This phase also marks a significant milestone in asset monetization through PGE's electricity sales transactions to PLN.
PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) President Director Julfi Hadi stated that this achievement is the result of the collective work of the PGE team in the field and the support of various stakeholders. "We are grateful that the Lumut Balai Unit 2 geothermal power plant can now fully and consistently operate. This is part of PGE's long-term commitment to providing reliable and sustainable clean geothermal energy. With this additional capacity, we are not only strengthening the national energy mix but also moving closer to achieving the target of independently managed installed capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW) in the next 2-3 years," he said.
Julfi also stated that this step demonstrates PGE's efforts to contribute to achieving the target of expanding New and Renewable Energy (NRE) generating capacity by 76% in the 2025-2034 period.
"Going forward, we are optimistic about continuing to support the acceleration of the target of increasing national geothermal capacity by 5.2 GW during that period," he said.
In addition to the Lumut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant, PGE is also developing several other strategic projects, such as the Hululais Unit 1 & 2 Geothermal Power Plant (110 MW), as well as several co-generation projects with a total capacity of 230 MW. Recently, on June 26, PGE also inaugurated the exploration (green field) of the Gunung Tiga Geothermal Power Plant in Lampung with a potential capacity of 55 MW.
