Having just turned 19 years old, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) has reaffirmed its position as a driving force behind the clean energy transition and strengthening the national geothermal ecosystem. With the theme "Empowering the Green Acceleration," PGE is fully committed to innovation, collaboration, and empowering local communities. This initiative is part of PGE's ambitious vision: welcoming Indonesia's centennial geothermal development in 2026 with greater and more impactful contributions.
Edwil Suzandi, Director of Exploration and Development at PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, firmly stated, "PGE is not only achieving operational targets, but we are also creating new ones with the ambition of Beyond Electricity. We are leading the energy transformation, ensuring geothermal energy expands and empowers all levels of society. The groundbreaking of the Green Hydrogen Pilot Project in Ulubelu last September is clear evidence that we are pushing the boundaries of geothermal utilization. Looking ahead, we will strengthen and accelerate this consistency, making the historic momentum of Indonesia's 100th anniversary of geothermal development in 2026 the foundation for future green energy dominance."
Entering its 19th anniversary, PGE continues to accelerate geothermal utilization through various strategic projects, from the operation of Lumut Balai Unit 2, the commencement of exploration for the Gunung Tiga Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), to synergy with PLN Indonesia Power to accelerate the development of 19 existing projects with a total capacity of 530 megawatts (MW). These initiatives reflect PGE's commitment to ensuring that geothermal energy contributes significantly to national energy security.
Currently, PGE manages an installed capacity of 727 MW across six operating areas and is developing new projects such as the Hululais Geothermal Power Plant Units 1 & 2 (110 MW) and a co-generation initiative with a capacity of 230 MW. PGE also targets an installed capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW) in the next 2-3 years and 1.8 GW by 2033. PGE has identified an additional 3 GW of geothermal potential from 10 independently managed WKP (Working Areas).
As this transformation accelerates, PGE ensures that its journey towards clean energy remains aligned with the company's social commitments. Through the PGE Berbagi program, part of its 19th anniversary celebrations, PGE distributes aid to orphans and vulnerable groups as a demonstration of its concern and tangible contribution to the community. This year, PGE Headquarters distributed 50 school supplies packages to the Al-Kahfi Foundation on December 4, 2025, as an effort to increase learning motivation and foster a better future for the beneficiaries.
PGE's Director of Operations, Ahmad Yani, emphasized that the spirit of sharing is integral to PGE's operational sustainability. "PGE grows with the community. Therefore, every step of our energy transformation must bring direct benefits to the surrounding communities. The PGE Berbagi program ensures that energy sustainability always goes hand in hand with social sustainability," Yani explained.
With innovation, collaboration, and social awareness as its foundation, PGE enters its 19th anniversary year with a commitment to providing inclusive clean energy and improving the well-being of communities throughout its operations.
