To Drive Energy Transition, PGE and PLN Collaborate to Accelerate Geothermal Development in Sulawesi and Sumatra

Tomohon, February 16, 2026 - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) continue to strengthen synergy in geothermal development to drive the national energy transition. This synergy was marked by a visit by PT PLN (Persero) to the PGE Lahendong Area in Tomohon, North Sulawesi, on Thursday (February 12, 2026). During the visit, the two state-owned enterprises discussed optimizing existing power plants, developing greenfield and brownfield projects, and their strategic partnership.

Executive Vice President (EVP) of Geothermal Management (MPB) of PT PLN (Persero), John Y.S. Rembet, accompanied by Dicky Saputra, Vice President of Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), IPP, and Partnerships at PT PLN (Persero), Galih K. Wardoyo, Manager of Geothermal Energy at PT PLN (Persero), Yodha Y. Nusiaputra, Manager of Procurement Planning at Geothermal IPP, and Adithya Yunanto, Executive Officer (EVP) at PT PLN (Persero), met directly with Andi Joko Nugroho, Director of Operations at PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, at PGE's Lahendong Geothermal Working Area (WKP).

Andi Joko Nugroho, Director of Operations at PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, explained that PLN's visit demonstrated the partnership between the two parties in developing geothermal potential in Sulawesi and Sumatra.

"This visit serves as a means to ensure that geothermal operations are aligned with the principles of good corporate governance, considering that PLN is the primary offtaker of geothermal energy produced by PGE," said Andi Joko in Tomohon, Monday (February 16, 2026).

The meeting also discussed technical documents for the Lahendong Geothermal Power Plant Units 7 and 8, the Steam Purchase Agreement (PJBU) for the Kotamobagu Geothermal Power Plant Units I, II, III, and IV, and the development of the Sungai Penuh Working Area (WKP).

Andi Joko also explained that the Lahendong Geothermal Power Plant, which began operating in 2001, has become one of the backbones of the electricity system, supplying up to 24 percent of electricity demand in the North Sulawesi region.

He hopes that solid synergy will enable PGE to continue fulfilling its role in maintaining national energy security, accelerating the clean energy transition, and actively contributing to achieving the national carbon emission reduction target.

"We also want to ensure our role in supporting the Net Zero Emission target through the development of geothermal-based clean energy," he said.

To date, PGE manages an installed geothermal capacity of 1,932 MW, approximately 70 percent of the total installed national geothermal capacity, with geothermal-based electricity generation expected to reach 4,827 gigawatt hours (GWh) by 2024, supplying clean electricity to more than 2 million households.
