PGE Receives BISRA Award for Its Commitment to implementing ESG and SDGs in Social & Environmental Responsibility

 

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) as part of the Subholding Power & New Renewable Energy (PNRE) receives three awards at the Bisnis Indonesia Social Responsibility (BISRA) event. The three awards are the Platinum through the PGE Kamojang Area, Gold through the Ulubelu Area, and Silver through the Lahendong Area in the BUMN/BUMD Champion in Corporate Social Responsibility category.

According to Eko Agung Bramantyo, Director of Operations at PGE, the award is a form of recognition from BISRA for companies that carry out CSR activities that benefit the surrounding community. “This award is PGE's achievement that proves its commitment to social activities and environmental responsibilities," said Eko remarked on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 in Jakarta.

PGE Kamojang Area receives the highest award in the Platinum Champion category for its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative KANG DEDI (Kamojang Desa Digital), an innovative community empowerment initiative developed by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) Kamojang Area. Kang Dedi carries out village digitization by producing environmentally friendly technology. "Kang Dedi's various innovations have been able to solve limitation problems due to COVID-19 outbreak, social problems, and community needs, particularly in the fields of communication, transportation, and agriculture," Eko stated.

The BISRA 2022 award is a form of recognition given by Bisnis Indonesia to companies that participated in all stages of the judging process, from registration, filling out questionnaires, submitting relevant data, to interviews/ presentations before the BISRA 2022 Jury, which took place between January and May 2022.

According to Eko Agung, PGE remains committed to expanding geothermal energy and assuring the implementation of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) to become an integrated part of PGE's geothermal business. The incorporation of these ESG aspects is an effort to provide added value and to support to government programs related to the use of new, renewable energy that is environmentally friendly, especially geothermal.

PGE's commitment to developing geothermal energy can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of Goal 7 (Clean and Affordable Energy), Goal 12 (Responsible Construction and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Change Management), and Goal 15 (Land Ecosystem).

PGE currently manages 13 Geothermal Working Areas spread across Sumatra, Java, Bali and North Sulawesi. with an installed capacity of 1877 MW, of which 672 MW are operated and managed directly by PGE and 1,205 MW are managed under a Joint Operation Contract scenario. Geothermal installed capacity in PGE working area contributes to around 82% of the total installed geothermal capacity in Indonesia, with a potential reduction of CO2 emissions of around 9.7 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
