PGE Distributes Logistics Aid for Garut Flood Victims

On Friday, July 15, floods struck the Garut area at various spots along the Cimanuk river flow and small rivers on its fault. The river overflow submerged several residential areas near the river, forcing residents to evacuate and leave their things behind.

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) Kamojang Area, in collaboration with SPPGE Peduli and Bazma BDI Peduli, distributed aid to Garut flood victims on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. Mattresses, blankets, cleaning equipment, notebooks, and other basic necessities were among the items provided to the community during the disaster emergency response.

The support was handed over directly by the Acting General Manager of the Kamojang Area Aris Kurniawan, representatives of PGE Workers' Union, and Islamic Da'wah Agency representatives.

"We are saddened by the flood disaster. According to our survey results from yesterday, many residences were submerged, resulting in wet and damaged property; thus, help for flood victims was realized in the form of emergency commodities for the community," Aris said.

Aris Kurniawan hoped that this assistance will be beneficial to flood victims. "This assistance is expected to help and benefit the affected communities in the disaster area," added Aris.

Galih Mawariz, the head of Kota Wetan Village, represented the community in receiving the aid. "We would like to express our gratitude to Pertamina for the assistance provided to the people of Kota Wetan Village. Not only today that we have felt PGE's care and benefit in the Kamojang Area, but the company has always helped the community in many occasions," Galih added.

Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas Kota Wetan, LPM, and all Neighborhood chiefs affected by the flood as representatives of the people in the Garut area also attended and witnessed the symbolic handover ceremony.

PGE currently manages 13 Geothermal Working Areas spread across Sumatra, Java, Bali and North Sulawesi. with an installed capacity of 1877 MW, of which 672 MW are operated and managed directly by PGE and 1,205 MW are managed under a Joint Operation Contract scenario. Geothermal installed capacity in PGE working area contributes to around 82% of the total installed geothermal capacity in Indonesia, with a potential reduction of CO2 emissions of around 9.7 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
